Spooky Pop Tunes

0

Okay. It might be a bit early for Halloween posts. I just can’t help myself. September means Fall to me and it’s already got me feeling witchy. 😉 I love my pop music. I also enjoy fantastical/dark lyrics, themes, and visuals. As such, I’ve compiled a fun list of entrancing songs to enjoy this time of the year. Unleash the ghouls, zombies, and magic.

Katy B – Witches Brew

This song is synth heaven with spellbinding lyrics. “Witches Brew” is about using witchcraft to make another person fall in love with you. I always thought it would be fun to be a witch. Tying up guys and dancing in rainy graveyards come with the territory according to Katy B.

The Green Children – Dragons

Milla and Marlow of The Green Children are super talented. Their music is electro-pop full of magic and fantasy. The pair took their band name from an old English legend about a brother and sister with green skin who mysteriously appeared in the village of Woolpit. The video for “Dragons” is much like a forest fairy tale. Sincerity and innocence emanate from this duo’s music. Milla and Marlow are also very involved with philanthropy. “Black Magic” is another of their more fantastical songs.

Fefe Dobson – Ghost

I like the song “Ghost” better than the video. It’s a cute concept: You can break up with the girl, but that doesn’t mean she won’t still haunt you. I want to learn how to hang from the ceiling…

Natalia Kills – Zombie

Old horror movie vibes, anyone? Natalia is a great actress and I love how all of her videos look like mini films. The distorted, robotic vocals create an uneasy atmosphere. This video was the beginning of Natalia’s “dark pop” music genre. By the way, Natalia just released her new album Trouble and it’s spectacular. So proud of her!

Blood On The Dance Floor – Bewitched

Blood On The Dance Floor seem to get a lot of hate and I guess I can see why. Some of their music can be really offensive and distasteful, but I enjoy that. I’m pretty sure the fans are in on the joke. It’s not like people are getting massive amounts of inspiration from this band. They’re just fun to listen to. I like their unique visuals and I think Jayy is handsome.

Katy Perry – E.T.

Minus Kanye West (ugh), “E.T.” is wonderful. The lyrics are spot on and the instrumentation is futuristic to fit the theme. The song sounds like it could belong to the Russian duo t.A.T.u. It’s very different from anything else Katy’s ever done, but I appreciate her creative risk. The video is stunning and way rad. There’s proof that even aliens can find love. 🙂

Get a little spooky everybody!
